Background

The Energy Efficiency Policies and Measures database provides information on policies and measures taken or planned to improve energy efficiency. The database covers measures in IEA member countries, Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. Comprising more than 1,000 records dating back to 2000 and sometimes earlier, the database provides an excellent source of information on energy efficiency policy developments. This online service aims to complement the policy analysis carried out by the IEA on energy efficiency improvements and climate change mitigation. The database further supports the IEA G8 Gleneagles Plan of Action mandate to “address the strategic challenge of transforming our energy systems to create a more secure and sustainable future… and share best practice between participating governments.”

The IEA continuously updates the database and government experts are regularly provided with the opportunity to review its contents. However, the database may not be a complete listing of all actions taken to improve energy efficiency. For example, information on actions by sub-national governments is not systematically included. If you believe information is missing, please help us to improve the quality of this service by writing to ee@iea.org or by submitting information via the online form at: http://www.iea.org/textbase/pm/GR-SHORTForm_effi.htm. As we are currently expanding the database’s capacity to serve the identification of best practices, we would welcome information on ex-post and cost-benefit analyses of policies.
