Maria van der Hoeven took charge on the 1st September 2011 as the new Executive Director of the International Energy Agency. In this video she describes the path that led her from teaching to entering politics, and speaks about what attracted her to the role of Executive Director. Ms Van der Hoeven also outlines her main priorities for the IEA, and what she considers to be the current major global energy-related challenges.
