United Arab Emirates

Hydrocarbons production in the UAE is focused on Abu Dhabi, which is the Gulf’s third largest producer with capacity in excess of 2.7 million b/d of oil, alongside an LNG facility at Das Island. Expansion efforts are underway to boost oil capacity to over 3.5 million b/d, with the focus on existing oilfields and reservoirs, given limited exploration outside these few core areas.

Gas expansion is also underway in an effort to meet the Emirates surging gas demand. This has encouraged interest in the country’s previously inaccessible sour gas reserves, which are expected to contribute to capacity increases early next decade. The country has also signed gas import agreements with both Qatar (Dolphin pipeline) and Iran.
