Libya has returned to the international upstream arena in a significant way since the lifting of US and UN sanctions. Its oil production capacity has increased to around 1.8 million b/d, while gas exports are being developed for the Italian market through the Green Stream pipeline. The country has a small LNG capacity to date, although a project has been awarded with the intention of expanding this. Potential for further growth through exploration and development is thought to be large, given limited exploration so far in a number of areas of the country, including the offshore Mediterranean, Murzuq, Ghadames and the Eastern side of the country.
